A five-day environmental literacy training aim at addressing environmental issues in Liberia has kicked-off at the Monrovia Christian Fellowship in Sinkor, Monrovia.
Additionally, the training is being organized by the Institute for Environmental Protection (IFEP) in collaboration with Catalyst 2030, Bong University Graduates Association (BUGA), Citizens Bureau for Development and Productivity and Women Monitoring and Development Program.
Speaking during the start of the training which brought together over fifty young men and women, the Institute for Environmental Protection Executive Director, Kansualism Berk Kansuah said the training is geared towards enlightening the minds of participants on various environmental issues and how they can collaborate in finding solutions to some of the issues affecting the environment.
Mr. Kansuah stated that the training will also focus on climate change, land degradation, deforestation, ocean literacy, environmental safety and public health, open dedication and solid waste management among several topics.
He at the same time challenged participants to champion the need to protect their environment, which he stressed that is one of the 17 goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Kansuah then lauded all partnering organizations for the collaboration in ensuring that young people are trained on the dangers ahead if nothing is done to protect the environment.
Meanwhile, in separate remarks, heads of the partnering institutions reiterated the need for more positive actions in addressing climate change and other environmental issues in Liberia, and thereby pledged their respective institutions’ willingness for more collaboration in order to train more citizens on how to keep the environment safe.
