Some 42 players and staff within the English Premier League have reportedly tested positive for coronavirus.
Local British Media reports monitored by African Entertainment revealed that the players and staff tested positive in the past week.
The current cases are considered the most recorded in the Premier League in a period of one week.
The 42 cases mark the highest number after 40 cases were reported in January 2021.
Reports say at the time the 40 cases were recorded in January, about 2,295 tests were carried out, while 3,805 tests were done in the latest round from 6-12 December 2021.
The clubs that have confirmed cases in the latest round include Brighton, Tottenham, Leicester, Manchester United and Aston Villa, with United’s game at Brentford in doubt, a report sighted by African Entertainment on www.bbc.com revealed.
Reports say going forward, fans will need to show proof of double vaccination or a negative test to attend sporting events with crowds of more than 10,000 people in England.
