Coronavirus: President George Weah declares State of Emergency in Liberia

Breaking News!

Liberian president, George Weah has declared a state of emergency in Liberia starting from Friday, 10, 2020. This follows the increasing risk of the country experiencing a breakout of the virus which they are totally unprepared for. The state of emergency is billed to last for three weeks.

In addition to the state of emergency, President Weah has ordered a lockdown of 4 counties in the republic. The counties include Montserrado County, Margibi County, Nimba County and Grand Kru County. Residents in these areas have been warned to stay indoors except for essential reasons.

Aljazeera recently reported that the country had confirmed barely a handful of cases but due to the country’s poor healthcare system, there’s a huge risk of not being able to contain an outbreak.
