Yesterday, the 18th of December was the much anticipated 4th edition of Lagos shut down concert, OLIC (Olamide Live In Concert). For the first time in the much talked about concert headlined by ace rapper, Olamide, OLIC held at the 24,000 capacity Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos as opposed to the usual Eko Hotels. The reason for the change in venue according to organizers was to create more space for the increasing number of fans who attend the concert yearly.
Sadly, the stadium choice was a rather lofty one as this year recorded the poorest turnout of OLIC history and we hear Olamide’s choice of co-headlining artistes had everything to do with it.
According to multiple reports including tweets prior to the concert which was billed to kick start at 12pm yesterday, most of Olamide’s fans called for the boycotting of OLIC after Olamide displayed a lack of sensitivity regarding the ongoing protest against SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad) by showcasing a SARS official, Yomi SARS who in a recent interview made jests of the plight of young people who have been assaulted and some even killed by SARS officials in recent times.
Apparently, the reason for the low turnout was a way of telling Olamide that he cannot say a show is for the youth and allow a representative of injustice against Youths to perform. It just wasn’t worth their money.
Another side to the story which happens to also be trending was the situation of security. Since the venue was definitely not going to be as secure as Eko Hotels, many feared for their safety and decided to allow Olamide and the rest of industry’s finest perform for themselves.
No member of the Rapper’s team has addressed the issue as of the time of this post.
